No matter where you live in Punjab, Bengal, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, or South India, there are no shortages of non-vegetarian curries. The non-Vegan options in Bihar are also interesting. In addition to Litti Chokha, Bihar has Meat Champaran Curry that impresses foodies. Originally from the Champaran district of Bihar, this curry gets its name from there as well. The dish is also known as 'Ahuna Mutton', 'Matka Gosht', or 'Champaran Mutton Handi'.
As a traditional method of cooking Champaran Mutton, the mutton is placed inside an earthen pot or Matka and covered with the wheat dough from top, then cooked on low heat. This prevents steam from escaping and allows the spices to mix with the mutton. The steam inside makes the mutton robust, smoky, aromatic, and delicious.
One of the many popular one-pot dishes of Bihar, Meat Champaran is popularly paired with roti or rice. Mutton delicacy is flavored with onion, bold spices, and chilies. Interested in trying this recipe at home? We’ve got you covered.
